The Mighty Crusaders #1 (1965)


Here's the first issue of the original Silver Age incarnation of the official Archie Comics superhero team. Imagine a low-rent Avengers or Justice League...

One interesting note that should be made about the 1960s era (usually referred to as the "MLJ", "Mighty Comics", or "Radio Comics" era) Mighty Crusaders is that none other that Jerry Seigel (of Seigel and Shuster, creators of Superman fame) was one of the contributing writers to these books, most of the times uncredited.

Mighty Crusaders REMCO Action Figure Ad (1985)


Ah...the nostalgia for cheap toys of my youth....

I actually still have a complete set of these things, that I purchased at a local hometown Family Dollar store when I was 11, in the fall of 1985 (the Manchester, Ohio location, to be exact, which I still believe is in operation). The occupy a shoe box somewhere in my attic....I'll have to dig these out and display 'em somewhere in the house.

Too bad one cannot upload and share action figures, but I figure the ad should be enough to give folks the gist of how cheesey these things are....
